As somebody who has lived in Norfolk their whole life and frequently visits great Yarmouth during all seasons, I’d like to share my advice of the best places to stay, dine and have fun!
If you have never been to Great Yarmouth and are looking to visit the area, it’d be great for you to hear my personal favourites and help support local small businesses whilst also making the most of your time on the gorgeous Norfolk coastline.
My personal favourite things to do in Great Yarmouth:
- A simple walk along the Great Yarmouth seafront, especially in the summer, there is nothing better than relaxing on the beach with friends and family or on your own reading a book whilst listening to the waves crash against the golden sands.
- Whilst staying at The Rampart apartment hotel I love to use the amenities they offer such as free swim and gym access at the local Marina Centre and 10% off Great Yarmouth and Caister golf club. This just adds that special finishing touch to your seaside getaway.
- Visiting the Norfolk broads- about a 20-minute drive from Great Yarmouth you can hire a boat for the day and enjoy the sights and nature around the Norfolk broads. Or you could sit in the pub garden on a lovely summers day and enjoy the sun reflecting off the river.
- If you are looking for a cheap but cheerful meal, visit Great Yarmouth market which has a variety of different cuisines including traditional fish and chips, mac and cheese, Chinese food, Indian food, Seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables. Not only will you be enjoying delicious food, but you will also be supporting local businesses.
- Days out- No matter if you are a thrill seeker, calm day our person or want a night in Great Yarmouth has it all. From the old-fashioned snails to big rollercoasters at The Pleasure beach. Theres also the arc cinema, Sealife centre, time and tide museum, plenty of local restaurants and community events shown on visitgreatyarmouth.co.uk
Hidden Gems:
One of my favourite things to do no matter what time of year is to watch the sun set on the horizon of Great Yarmouth beach. I like to walk down on the quieter side of the beach near the Rampart hotel after making a hearty homemade meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Its very peaceful to sit on the beach listening to the birds and waves on the beach whilst watching pastel colours of pink and orange paint the sky.
As we like to support local businesses in Great Yarmouth, we frequently visit Christopher’s café, they have plenty of options including vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and much more. Not only is their menu diverse for options but it is also very tasty!
What is the best time to visit Great Yarmouth?
Honestly any time!
Whilst most attractions are open during the summer, there is still a variety of things to do in the area at any time of year. For example, the hippodrome circus has different themed shows depending on the season almost all year round, popular movies coming out at the arc cinema and more!
Final tips!
Before you pack your bags for Great Yarmouth, here are a few quick tips to make the most of your stay: bring layers — coastal weather can change quickly, even in summer! Try visiting the beach early in the morning or just before the sun sets for the most peaceful views, and don’t forget to explore beyond the seafront — some of the best food and quietest spots are just a short walk inland. Booking your stay at The Rampart early is always a good idea, especially during school holidays or event weekends. We’re perfectly placed near the seafront, with self-catering suites and free parking — everything you need for a relaxed, hassle-free visit to our lovely town.
